In the game, players are selected as members of the Dragonshield Guild, on a mission to stop the dragon queen Tiamat, who is plotting her return and igniting the War of Dragons. Along the way, players face rivals like Xanathar, Balinor, and Sammaster, all competing for dominance. The game blends the fantasy world of D&D with pinball in an unprecedented way.
One of the key features is the battle with Rath the Relentless, an advanced animatronic red dragon that reacts intelligently to player actions with multi-axis motion and omnidirectional impact sensing. Voiced by Michael Dorn, Rath challenges players to defeat him using pinballs and hitting the 3-bank target to steal his treasure. As Rath breathes fire, multiple pinballs shoot from his mouth, and players can activate a metal shield between the flippers to defend and enhance playfield shots.
The game also offers hidden passageways, an electromagnet-powered gelatinous cube that freezes the pinball, and dynamic dungeon levels that are revealed through a disappearing playfield trap door. Players can explore Fizmo’s store for unique items, face mimic monsters from treasure chests, and discover even more secrets.
Players can also embrace randomness as they roll the dice, unlocking various paths in the game’s campaign that lead to different story endings. The game offers multiple playthroughs, each with new characters, items, and challenges. After completing a campaign, additional characters will become available.
